Rating by category:
A delightful Art Nouveau building which has been modernised so as to provide maximum comfort while retaining the feel of the Art Nouveau period. This, combined with the exceptionally helpful and friendly reception staff, ensured a pleasant and memorable stay.
Good central location in Meiringen. Very comfortable airy modern room with beautiful view across to the mountains. Staff were genuinely very friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet was excellent - good choice, well set out with little labels stating what everything was. Scrambled egg, bacon and boiled eggs every morning for those wanting a hot breakfast. Hotel atmosphere was very easy going and relaxing. It was also quiet. The hotel had an excellent a la carte restaurant in the grounds for evening meals.
I thought the hotel was very expensive and therefore did not give value for money. However I wanted to do mountain walking in this area and because of its excellent central location I felt it was worth paying the amount charged. There was a mini-bar in the room which was advertised as one of the room's facilities. But it was not stocked and I always had to phone for drinks to fill it up. I had never been to a hotel before which did not stock its mini-bar and I found this mildly irritating. When I first arrived at the hotel I thought they had forgotten to stock up the mini-bar!
wide rooms, clean, very nice.
Not comfortable in reception area, bar closed, lacked lounge area also the hotel was cold.
Comfortable stay and pleasant helpful staff.
The staff were very warm and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. The breakfast was excellent and kept replenished.
Quet location in mid-town, friendly and efficient staff, comfortable and clean rooms. An enjoyable short stay.
Lovely, friendly service. Corner room I had was wonderful and very comfortable. Food, also very good.
It was such a lovely location with beautiful views. Our room was impeccable.
Free WiFi impossible to use, although a computer was accessible.
Location and decor
Would like to have had a spa
The staff at reception were extremely helpful, excellent service. The breakfast was good.
The standard room we got on arrival was terrible, chipped wooden ceiling, old tv, no tea/coffee making facilities. Basic bathroom, tiny room. Very disappointing. We had to upgrade to te superior room which was much improved. The hotel itself has old charm but certainly needs freshening up.
When I complained about not being able to sleep for most of the night (see below) I got a 60% discount on the room rate. Only after the discount it was a good value for money, otherwise regular price is a scam.
There is night club in the hotel which will not let you sleep till 3-4 o'clock in the morning (Saturday night). When complained, the hotel staff gave me earplugs and advised to "sleep" because then I will not hear the music. Unacceptable for the hotel that claims 4 stars (not more than 2 for me though).
Friendly staff, very accomodating, excellent location, nice garden.
It is a beautiful old building. Our rooms were very large with a seating area.
No (free) wifi in the hotel, only close to reception. But even there I wasn't able to connect. I found the breakfast a bit disappointing, had expected more choice and fresh products.
